The Agro-Business Board (JAD) is supporting the efforts of the Airport Department, which said it was looking to charter a cargo plane in order to maintain and even expand the export of vegetables to markets in the United States. The news, which JAD president Ramon Peralta disclosed to reporters from Hoy newspaper, emphasizes some of the current problems facing exporters due to the announced reduction in the number of flights to and from the Dominican Republic as of September.
Airport Department head Andres Vanderhorst told reporters that the lack of reliable and fast access to the US market represents a potential loss of as much as US$70 million.
