Ivonne Arias, representing the Coalition for the Defense of Protected Areas, says that compensation for the supposed property owners in Bahia de las Aguilas will not be necessary. She says that before the government declared the land a protected area, a survey revealed that the lands were not privately owned. As reported in El Dia newspaper, Luis Carvajal says that it is surprising that no-one has been arrested in relation to the case, because according to him politicians and government officers were involved in the fraudulent appropriation of the nation's heritage. Attorney General Rodolfo Espineira said yesterday that the titles claimed by several individuals to land within Bahia de las Aguilas are fraudulent, and that these irregularities will be proven in court.
