Roberto Salcedo, who is seeking a second term as Santo Domingo's Mayor, has told Listin Diario that he is a supporter of more high-rise development in Santo Domingo. He told the newspaper that rules and regulations are still needed so that the city's vertical growth proceeds without urban traumas, and he said that his administration has already sent the city council a list of regulations aimed at creating zones in the city. "This will make it possible for people who purchase a house in an area where only one level housing is permitted, to have the peace of mind that no high-rise buildings will be built next door, or a colmadon if you live in a residential area," he said. He said that despite the fact that these regulations have not yet been approved by the city council, they are already being applied. He says that he is not proposing anything new, but to continue organizing the city, because he feels he has already made significant strides in organizing garbage service and public space areas. He mentioned as achievements, works with the green spaces of Km. 9 of Duarte Highway, Padre Castellanos Park, and Mirador del Sur Park, among others. He also mentioned the achievement of having removed 152,000 signs, including thousands for political campaigning, which were posted on important avenues.
