The Fernandez government collected RD$24.9 billion in tax revenue during the first quarter, which was RD$6.07 billion more than for the same period last year. This represents a 32% increase. The Department of Taxes (DGII) report for the first quarter says that the government received RD$251 million more than had been budgeted for the period. Income tax revenues were up RD$187 million, while value added tax (ITBIS) was up RD$155 million more. The DGII, nevertheless, reported that luxury taxes on beer sales were down, because the general public is buying more light Presidente beer, which pays less tax.
