As the election campaigns heat up, and the tempers start to flare, National Dialogue coordinator Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado has managed to get the major parties together, and today they will sign a "Pact of Civility" at the PUCMM. The signatories will be the presidents and secretaries general of the two main alliances: the GANA, which joins the PRD and the PRSC in what is better known as the "Pink" alliance, and the Progressive Block, which combines the PLD and its allies. Other parties will also be signatories to the pact. These include the PRSD party headed by Hatuey De Camps, and the PRI party headed by Trajano Santana. The members of the diplomatic corps will serve as witnesses to the signing. According to Monsignor Nunez Collado, the pact will serve to lower the intensity of verbal exchanges and avoid further and more serious problems during the last days of the campaign. The pact is designed to last beyond the elections, however, and obliges the signers to work on many of the pending legislative proposals, including constitutional reform.
