Felix Manuel Diaz Guzman, gold medallist in Beijing Olympics boxing, and Gabriel Mercedes, silver medal in taekwondo, returned yesterday to the salutes of family and thousands of Dominicans proud of their achievement. Minister of Tourism Felipe Payano, and the president of the Dominican Federation of Boxing, Bienvenido Solano received the heroes. They rode a caravan into the city and were greeted by thousands despite the constant drizzle falling yesterday in Santo Domingo. Diaz's coach, Cuban Pedro Luis Diaz said that the task now is to prepare with time for the London Olympics, as reported in the Listin Diario. He says that if he receives a good offer, he would stay in the DR. President Leonel Fernandez will receive the medal winners on Thursday at 4pm at the Presidential Palace to decorate them as national heroes.
