US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, Lisa J. Kubiske spoke at a graduation ceremony held for 34 trainers in the National Police Headquarters yesterday, saying that the Dominican police work under difficult conditions trying to enforce the new Criminal Procedures Code, which has meant a new way of working as a team between the police and the prosecutors. The US Embassy donated US$1 million to the police for officer training and the FBI donated equipment to facilitate the collection and analysis of evidence. The officers were trained by the Southern Miami Police in classroom presentations, patrolling, community service, handling of suspects and firearms, self-defense and surveillance.
