(ANSA) - Vatican City, May 9 - Sex is to be purged from national Polish television during the visit of Pope Benedict XVI later this month .
There will be no sexy adverts, no raunchy soap operas and no publicity for condoms on the state TVP network. Even ads for underwear will be scratched when in-house Catholic censors get to work next week. According to Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza, TVP is determined to avoid anything which might distract viewers' attention and sully coverage of Benedict's May 25-28 visit to Poland .
The network has already taken off the air an advert for a soccer championship in which a man and woman are seen having sexual intercourse, Gazeta Wyborcza said .
The German pontiff's four-day schedule in Poland includes trips to the Auschwitz concentration camp, a shrine in Czestochowa, and Wadowice, the birthplace of his predecessor, John Paul II .
All programming during the visit will be reviewed by a commission made up of Catholics journalists, who are expected to eliminate all trace of sex from TV screens, including adverts for personal hygiene products .
Beer adverts are expected to be another target for the 'vulgarity' censors, who are due to start work on May 15, ten days before the pope's arrival .
