The Central Electoral Board (JCE) met yesterday to decide the fate of the 171,238 voters who were displaced from their normal voting stations. As a result, the board decided that these people could vote in the 16 May elections at the place where their name appears on the voting rolls. Luis Arias, the chief election magistrate, told reporters that the electoral board was unanimous in its opinion in this respect. The decision disavows the complaint by the PLD party that questioned the legality of people who were shifted to Pedernales province in order to bolster certain parties' power in this sparsely populated area. The election board ordered an "Informational List" to be printed up to steer those displaced voters to the right polling stations. The list will be available at the polling station used by the voter in the 2004 presidential elections, and will show where the displaced voter should go to cast his or her vote.
