The Superintendence of Banks has carried out a study on the debt levels of 37 economic groups in the Dominican Republic, as reported in the Listin Diario today. The Listin Diario reports that the Grupo Hazoury (Aerodom airports, Cap Cana, Unibe university, Clave Digital publications) is the consortium with the highest debt - RD$2.24 billion. The governmental Banreservas is the principal lender for the Hazoury Group as of September 2005 (RD$1.11 billion in debt with the Reservas). The study was carried out to determine the concentration of financial risk, following International Monetary Fund guidelines that overall seek to enhance bank supervision practices with the implementation of new banking regulatory framework.
