Politics and government jobs are best kept in the family, or so believe many who are or have been in government. Technical Secretary of the Presidency, and member of the PLD political committee, is supporting his brothers, Jose Montas campaign for mayor, and Gamalier Montas, campaign for deputy for San Cristobal, as reported in El Caribe. Jose is deputy director of the Port Authority and Gamalier is employed as deputy director of Inapa.
National Controller Simon Lizardo is backing his sister Cristina Lizardo, who is a PLD deputy, for senator for the province of Santo Domingo. Luis Inchausti, minister without portfolio, is backing his wife, Ledy Vasquez for deputy for the province of Santo Domingo. General Juan Bautista Rojas Tabar, who is in charge of airport security, is backing his wife Matilde Franco for deputy mayor of Santo Domingo Este for the PLD.
The Secretary General of the Dominican Municipal League, Amable Aristy Castro of the PRSC has his daughter, Karina, seeking reelection as mayor of Higuey. Aristy Castro is again running for senator. Last term he ran for Senator and then resigned the post, in a negotiated move. Mario Fernandez is a PRSC deputy and his wife Mercedes Ozorio seeks to be mayor of San Francisco de Macoris. The former mother-in-law of President Fernandez, Piedad Quezada, is the PLD candidate for mayor in Jarabacoa.
Previous press reports had pointed to Hernani Salazar of the PRD who is running for re-election as senator and whose wife is a Supreme Court judge.
