My first open call for assistance. I've heard lots of stories about the beach but I've never had any luck while I was there. I've gone 3 times and always ended up at passions. Any particular "hot" spots to hang?

I'll be there 25-29 and if someone is willing to offer a little training I'm willing to cover the Presidente's

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Hes always been nice to me and I don't really hang out in that section of the beach. I prefer the open section in the center where you dont have to worry about walking on those rocks or down some stairs to get to the ocean. Its also much more open spacially.

It has already been said in this thread by both Weyland and Magnum, stay away from Herman's recommendations. I have spent many days there over the past few years and have seen how he operates. The two or three girls he has set me up with have turned out to be either ladronas or coke heads.

I have also attended his 'sex parties' a couple of times, certainly a different experience. The girls he gets are low end street rats, who else would fuck for an afternoon for 300 pesos?

There are many good places to hang out on the beach, Mary Bar often has some chicas hanging out there from Santiago. Mary is a cool girl too who
has many connections on the beach and in town. I think her bar is #141.

Thanks for all the help and advice. It might have been that I've been lazy about it since you don't have to put much work into it for Sosua at night. It could also be that I have lived in Florida all my life and Miami for half of it and I actually could give a crap about the beach (much rather be out on the boat at the sandbar with a higher class of alcoholics.)

I am going to give it one more shot while I am down there. It either works or it doesn't.

Funny, I was just pondering that very point in the (UK) supermarket this afternoon. Within minutes I saw three young women attractive in every way until I realised how flat their butts were compared with those from Quisqueya. Then I saw the checkout supervisor giving me suspicious looks so I thought it was time to stop ogling and start shopping.

Mongering in Haiti is not easy. See the lack of mongering reports on all the various whoreboards. You can either go somewhere reasonably safe where MINUSTAH and other foreign officials go and pay high prices (mostly for Dominican rather than Haitian whores) or you can monger on the cheap at great risk of robbery, mugging or even death.

Anyone with half a brain would see that the safer and cheaper option if you want a haitiana is the DR. There are plenty to choose from.

I never really answered Cainer's original question as to why I prefer haitianas.

First, I would emphasise it is only a slight preference. I would take a good dominicana over a bad haitiana any day. And there are plenty of very bad haitianas is Sosúa. If you read my recent trip report you will see that I enjoyed both and my only bad experience was with a haitiana so I am not starry-eyed about them.

I think it is a self cumulating thing. Because I am interested in haitianas I am starting to speak a little of their language and learn a little of their culture and history. Because I do those things they warm to me a bit more and are nicer to me than they might be otherwise. And so it goes on.

Why did I start down that route in the first place? It is a bit like that thing where we always remain a bit in love with out first boyfriend/girlfriend. On my very first trip I was at Blackbeards. After routine and non-conversational sex with a couple of dominicanas I met Nadine, a Haitian, and found that I got on well with her because I could speak a bit of French, whereas at that time I could not speak a word of Spanish (apart from "caramba!" which I learned from the Simpsons). After that I sought out Haitians because I could communicate with them a bit and it went from there.

Once I emigrate to the DR I will need to give priority to learning Spanish for my daily survival so that will no longer be a factor, but I now already have many Haitian contacts.

Another reason is that they can be a bit cheaper as they are more likely to be desperate for money.

A final reason is that they are less likely to thieve or try and blackmail you, threaten to call the police, or appeal for support to locals, because many of them are illegals and they know if they draw attention to themselves they may be ill-treated or deported and that the police and authorities are far less likely to support them against a gringo than they would a dominicana.

Once again, all the above comments only refer to marginal differences, a shading of the odds. Dominicans and Haitians have far more in common than they have differences. After all, it used to be one country and, in the distant future, I hope it will be again.

Thanks, but I don't claim to be an expert on Haitians or any other aspect of mongering or the DR. I have only made six trips. Some guys here have made several dozen. Once I have lived there a couple of years then I might know a bit but until then I would never claim to be anything other than a relative newbie.

To that I would add that the "edge" you get from befriending a haitiana in the DR (which I described below) you would not get from befriending one in their own country:

Also I would add that while living in Haïti at survival level is necessarily very cheap for Haitians (as the average earnings are only a few dollars a month), anywhere a gringo would want to live or visit and most things a gringo would want to buy, are much more expensive than in the DR. I am sure Gladiator and others would agree that this is normal in most desperately poor African countries, and in so many ways Haïti fits into that pattern rather than the Latin American one. Perhaps I should say instead "has been forced into that pattern by its history".

While I much appreciate theman's report, he says that he has lived in Haïti for two years and speaks fluent Kreyol. He must have some interesting stories and observations for us, both monger and non-monger related. We are starved of info from that unhappy country. Please?
