The Central Bank (CB) has announced that the country's GNP grew by 12.6% during the first quarter of 2006, continuing the trend of the last quarter of 2005, which was 12.1%. According to CB Governor Hector Valdez Albizu, the major players in this growth are agribusiness (13%), mining (9.1%) and construction - the sector that grew the most - at 31.8%. Other sectors that grew were local industry (10.4%), trade (16.1%), tourism (4.8%) and transportation (18.1%), as reported by Diario Libre.
