In the mornings, my regulars would come over for breakfast, in the afternoons, I would go to the park and the beach, and in the evenings I would grab a cup of coffee at Zanzibar before heading to bed (I am a day person).
One evening, with about a 10 days left to go in Boca, I never made it to Zanzibar. While walking down Juan Baptista on my way to Duarte, I bump into a familiar Zanzibar waitress "on the town" with her very cute neighbor. They're walking around Boca taking photos of one another with her new camera. They ask if I can assist, so I agree, and we walk the streets taking photos of one another. We finally make it to Duarte and hang out with of couple of her waitress friends near Isla Bonita. We are drinking, eating and still taking photos, she with her camera and me with mine. It's getting late so we all start to head towards Zanzibar, I arm and arm with the very cute neighbor who is all dressed up for her first night on Duarte.
Well, like I said, I never made it to Zanzibar. I guess the very cute neighbor wasn't quite ready for her first night on Duarte after all, oops! The Politur stop us and haul my cutie off to jail. Well, what could I do? Well, her friends do absolutely nothing. I am clueless, because they do nothing and because they should have know better than to have brought her along. I am confused and upset, an innocent evening spoiled. So I follow my cutie and the officer to the police station to find out how I can help, and eventually her friends follow.
By the time I arrive at the police station, I am really pissed off, at her friends, at the corrupt politur, and the BS that can be BC. So we are waiting, waiting for the police chief to come in to listen to our story. So while we wait, this piece of trash Politur starts threatening me with 30 years imprisonment. At 2am in the morning, I am too tired to care (even though I knew this guy was full of shit). He opens his desk drawer, and starts showing me all of these Dominican ID cards of men he had locked-up "just like me." Well the first thing is, they aren't just like me they are Dominicans (and that makes all the difference). Then he takes me outside for a private conversation (he's fishing for some cash), fine I'll play along. "$RD1,500, $RD2,000, no sufficiente, cuantos quiere? $RD5,000!!! lo siento pero que es demasiado para mi." I really don't mind that this guy is trying get a few bucks, but this guy wants too much and he's getting it from the wrong "ladies." So, it's 3am in the morning, I am tired, and I want to go to bed. So I give the waitress a $RD1,000 for the cutie and head home. I wanted to do the right thing for several reasons :-) but $RD5,000 is a 10 girl party on my lap and like I said, I am a day person.
Still missing Boca...
I return in a few weeks.....
