Hi,
This will be my first trip to Sosua/PP and after doing some searching and reading, I've come up with some hotel names and I'd like some input as far as pros and cons. I've already been convinced by various threads that I'm best off to rent a car for my stay so I can cruise chicks more and hit the hard core puta clubs less.

Anyway, here are the hotel names:
New Garden
Harbor View
Blackbeards
Hotel Voramar

I'm under the impression that Blackbeards and Hotel Voramar both have girls available at the hotel...I think point and click was mentioned. Is this true? That appeals to me so while I hone my skills at meeting girls outside the bars I will have something to fall back on instead of dealing with the hard core girls at the hooker bars.

I'm under the impression that Dominican Billy is the owner of the Harbor View and is open to lending advice and wingman services to a personable newbie like me. It would be nice to be able to hook up with someone able to lend advice so I'm not just throwing myself to the wolves...so to speak. Is this the case with Billy?

So that's what I've come up with so far. I've seen condos and villas recomended but I'm hesitant to stay in an isolated situation like that on my first trip...maybe after I have a handful of ph#s and know the...lay of the land...so to speak.

Thanks for any comments or advice.

You're best bet as a first timer...in Sosua...the New Garden Hotel....totally central to everything....no need for a vehicle, and of course always girls hanging around there, and usually a few ISOC guys staying...

If your staying in POP...Billy would be the way to go..

Blackbeards is also good for a few days......

Billy doesn't own the Harbor View Condos, he just manages them. Still haven't met him but everything is very positive on the board and from my buddy's that have actually met him.

Good luck and continue to study the board as much as you can before you leave.

How long are you going for?

Be aware that spending your time at Harbor View will result in a very different experience from spending your time at (say) the New Garden. Both good, but in different ways. It depends what you want from your holiday.

I like Harbor View and would never stay anywhere else but I would say that it is less suited to younger guys who want to party non-stop and less suited for frequent short-time fucking, though others may disagree. Certainly having a car there would increase your options, though it is not essential as Harbor View is near the public transport hub.

If you want to pack as many different chicas into your holiday as possible, you cannot beat the New Garden, and there are always several ISOC guys there or near at hand if you need company or advice.

Also you state that this is your first time in Sosúa/Puerto Plata. You do not say whether it is:
1) your first time mongering in the DR
2) your first time mongering in Latin America

Any previous experience or knowledge of Spanish will enhance your results.

Many people like the Voramar, especially Europeans, but I have never heard of anyone staying there because of the chicas hanging there. That sounds like a red herring.

There are no chicas staying at the Voramar, they only have a bar which is open 24/7 and usually during the evening hours some chicas show up in order to pick up a gringo. I have stayed at the Voramar 2 times so far and there some pros and cons about this place.

The Hotel Voramar is situated outside of Sosua in an area called Playa Chiquita so ever time you want to get to the center of Sosua you have to take a moto in order to get to restaurants, discos, the strip...The bar is open 24/7 and during my last trip several people complaint to the managamente about the noise during the night.

Pros the voramar offers rooms and apartments. The apartaments are behind the 2 main buildings, so in case you are a light sleeper you might go for an apartment. The apartements have a small kitchen, so in case you want to prepare your own meals this is no problem.

if you are staying there more then 4 nights they offer free airport pick up and they also get you back to the airport when you are leaving.
The Voramar is across the Casino in the playa chiquita area so if you are an party animal you can just walk across the street and party till 4 am in the morning.
The Voramar is outside of Sosua so you wont be bothered by the motoconcho noise all night long.

For additional information check out their webpage
www.voramar-sosua.com (http://www.voramar-sosua.com)

During my last trip in january/february there also stayed lot`s of americans at the voramar.

I made my first trip to Sosua in june and stayed at the New Garden. In my opinion it has the best to offer. It is centrally located to all the restaurants, bars, the beach, casino, tours, snorkleing etc. You dont need to worry about renting a car and all the headaches associated with that. And you can go at whatever pace you prefer. If you prefer just to relax and hang out at the pool you can do that. If you want to go get a massage with a happy ending, just walk a block down the street. Its not non stop, crazy partying at the NG. Its actually fairly laid back during the day.

If you prefer point and click, just look around the pool and bar area as there is usually a few to choose from. They dont hassle you unless you want some company. Then you have a great beach that is a 5-10 minute walk and has everything you could want there. Plenty of water activites or you can rent a lounge chair and umbrella for a couple of bucks for the whole day. Sometimes chicas will come up and ask if you'd like some company. So its all on your own pace and whatever you like.

At night, they have the discos and bars loaded with plenty of chicas. Yes, there are plenty of hard cores but there is also plenty of friendly, accommodating ones as well. So if you want to hone your skills there is plenty to choose from and work with. You can go to some of the slower paced bars as well and meet chicas just as easily. So you dont have to be in a crowded disco if thats not your scene.

In my opinion, staying at the NG offers you everything and its up to you on how you want to proceed. You are not locked into anything and you have everything right at your fingertips. Of course I decided to over indulge and take in as much of everything I could, but to each his own. And if you get tired of the Sosua scene, you can easily go down to Caberette beach or see the sights in Puerto Plata.

The main thing is just to use some common sense and read the trip reports. I think NG just offers a lot more variety and value then some of the other venues.

Thanks for all the good input. Some of the posts asked me questions about my expectations on the trip so I'll add some comments:

I have mongered before - in Quito, Cali, Bogota and Cartagena. Basically, I have the same "sickness" as most mongers that 1 girl will never be enough. I like short term but I also enjoy a longer term in order to develope GFE.

I am older and not a party animal. I enjoy a beer with a meal, going out to eat with friends, daytime activities at the beach...but staying out all night drinking? No, I'd rather find a girl by 10pm and go all night with her. Actually, I'd rather find a girl in the afternoon, go out to eat and a little dancing and then hit the sheets by 10pm. Of course, just before I meet her I'd like to have a "soapie" at La Passion to take the edge off so I don't make a bad decision choosing that next girl.

I do speak spanish well enough to have conversations. My only problem with that is that I speak better than I hear so latinos think I'm fluent and they talk faster than I can absorb.

My interest in renting a car has more than one goal. 1. To get to and from the airport. 2. To cruise chicks...may need a wingman. 3. To explore up and down the coast because I'm thinking of moving to the North Coast. So with all those goals in mind, feel free to advise on the pros and cons of having a car the entire time I'm there...for example I read a trip report by YoungHero and that is what he did. By the way...how much does it run and is it totally a hassle or facile?

And finally, yes, I'm spending most of my free time reading trip reports and taking notes.
Thanks in advance...

...I like Harbor View and would never stay anywhere else...

This place is rarely (not to say never) mentioned. Condo, hotel, where is it, got a website ? Let us know what you like so much about this joint ?

I will be in the Puerto Plata Sosua area from Jan. 5 to 26 and would be honored to have a couple of cold ones with you (and your haitiana friends of course).

I'm a frequent guest of Black Beards, it definitely point an click there. I enjoy for its a very relaxed time there with very little to no drama what's so ever. They do have girls on site, which are just as good as you would find in Sosua clubs. The draw back would be is that you won't have as many girls to choose from as you would in Sosua. You also won't need to speak any spanish there as well, which is the same for the most part in Sosua, but in Sosua you would need to negotiate with the girls so spanish would be helpful, in Black Beards the prices are fixed already so no problems there, short term was 1300 peso usually one pop, but times are hard there from what I've been hearing so you definitely get more for your money if you talk with them before hand. Long term is 2500 peso all night usually one pop at night and another in the morning before leaving but again its probably negotiable now if you wanted more. Black Beards has a descent restaurant on site and there is nice italian place around the corner Sol Mio which is very good, but you would have a greater selection by staying in Puerto Plata or Sosua. In Black Beards you are kind of isolated and would have to depend on the taxi service in the area if you wanted to leave and hadn't rented a car. I met a taxi guy on my last trip spoke a good amount of english and thought he was ok with the prices, if you want it PM me for it if you decide not to rent. As for getting outside girls I wouldn't count on it to much, there aren't any available in the area for the most part, its a residential area with a lot of expats so not much of mongering scene, outside of Black Beards, which keeps a pretty low profile as you wouldn't even know what was happening behind the walls if you didn't know any better. Which is another drawback depending on what you want, as BLack Beards is very relaxed atmosphere, the craziest it gets would be during the bikini contest on the second and last Saturday of each month, Sosua would have more goings on with clubs etc. Outside girls are able to be brought in to Black Beards, as long as the have ID and haven't been ban from there before hand. If any problems develop with your outside girl you will be on your own, but with the in house girls you can go to management and they will assist you, which probably wouldn't happen as the girls don't want to get management involve cause punishment for them could be severe or they get designated a problem. As for the harbor view, with Domincan billy I haven't any experience with him, but I heard many good things about him and he seems to have his own regular clientel you would have to do a search in which you would find plenty of on here. I understand he doesn't have girls on site like Black Beards, but he seems to have a stable girls he can get for you. I visited Puerto Plata a few times it seems very nice, there is mongering available if you get around, but not to the extent of Sosua, but other members might better able to handle that question for you, I would say Sosua would be like Cancun in Mexico, there is a lot more happening there, its not a tourist trap, but definitely a more happening place.

Lets not forget about the other establishment that nobody on this forum cares to mention, Cristals Bunny Ranch . Ever since Billy sold it(Field of Dreams in POP) seems like its been blackballed from this forum
