[DR1] Praise for voters' behavior

Central Electoral Board (JCE) chief magistrate Luis Arias joined many of the foreign observers in commending the good behavior of most of yesterday's voters. As Dominicans voted for the 1,262 positions that were up for grabs, there was, generally speaking, a calm and quiet atmosphere at most polling stations. Arias, in a speech that was broadcast over the official channels shortly after the polls closed, praised the voters for their good behavior. US ambassador Hans Hertell described the elections as a "great day for the Dominican Republic and a great day for democracy." Ambassadors from Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Spain, Italy and Great Britain visited polling stations in Santo Domingo and joined in the congratulations for voters and candidates alike.
