The Da Vinci Code, the movie based on the controversial book by Dan Brown, opens in Santo Domingo and San Francisco de Macoris theaters today, Thursday, 18 May. The film's world premiere was at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. It will be released in the UK and the US on 19 May. The Catholic Church has protested against the film that focuses on its early history. The plot tells about a murder inside the Louvre in Paris and clues found in Leonardo Da Vinci paintings that lead to the discovery of a religious mystery that has been protected by a secret society for two thousand years and that could shake the foundations of Christianity. The Da Vinci Code stars Tom Hanks and Audrey Tatou. The film is showing at Palacio del Cine (Bella Vista Mall), Malecon Center Cinemas, Palacio del Cine (Av. Venezuela), Acropolis, and Hollywood Diamond Mall in Santo Domingo and at the Palacio del Cine in San Francisco de Macoris. The film is rated PG 13.
