A flight with 92 Dominican ex-convicts arrived from New York on Wednesday and was met by Migration Department authorities and the Las Americas Airport security services. Listin Diario reports that the group arrived at 1:35pm in a plane chartered by the US Immigration and Naturalization Service and was received under tight security measures escorted by seven federal officers who turned over the deportees to a commission composed of members of the Migration Department, the Police, the National Investigations Department (DNI), the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) and the Airport Security Department (CESA). According to reports 68 of these deportees have served terms of three to fifteen years for drug trafficking, murder, robbery and assault, rape, forgery, kidnap and arson. They served time in prisons located in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Antonio and Philadelphia. They were taken to the Police Headquarters and later to the DNCD Headquarters where they are being processed before being handed over to their relatives. With the arrival of this latest group, the number of deportees who have been returned to the DR since the beginning of the year has reached 1,038.
