Roberto Salcedo, whose large lead over contender Alfredo Pacheco, makes him the virtual winner for mayor of Santo Domingo city 2006-2010, says that his city government will continue to make it a priority to defend Santo Domingo's green areas. As reported in Hoy newspaper, Salcedo also announced the construction of produce markets in Santo Domingo for his second term. He announced that the reconstruction of the Mercado de Villa Consuelo would be completed in three months, and that the complex would include a cultural plaza and even a public library. He announced works to improve the Mercado Nuevo and the Los Guandules produce markets.


He expressed his support for the metro that is under construction in Santo Domingo. He said that it is a solution for secure, comfortable and fast transport for the city. He added that the city government would take advantage of the excavation for the metro to solve rainwater drainage problems.


He also announced that work would continue with the power distributors to improve lighting in the city to enhance safety. He said that one of the priorities for his next term is installing underground cabling for lighting the Malecon from Plaza Juan Baron to Abraham Lincoln Avenue. He also announced increased controls on parking in the Colonial City. He said that his government would continue to preserve and plant native and endemic trees in public spaces.


Salcedo was speaking on Hoy Mismo, on Channel 9, Color vision.
