Political analysts described the new control of Congress following Tuesday's midterm elections as "dangerous", as reported by Diario Libre. According to Pedro Catrain and Jose Antonio Fiallo, there was mismanagement of information by the Central Electoral Board (JCE), resulting in a large number of displaced voters. The preferential vote was "a big lie" according to Fiallo, who complained that voters were unable to "fraction" their vote for their preferred candidates. For his part, Catrain warns of the danger posed by the PLD - which he describes as "autistic and reluctant to listen to the people" - controlling Congress "because it would have indiscriminate power that leads us towards a democratic style with authoritarian tendencies. The best thing for democracy is a balance between the different State powers", said Catrain.

According to sociologist Rafael Toribio, this is an opportunity for the PLD to execute the progressive projects it had offered the country but had been hindered by obstacles in Congress. He said the country is tending towards a bi-partisan system because the third political force - the PRSC - stopped being an option to become a "hinge party". He also accused former president Hipolito Mejia and the PPH (the former President's re-election campaign) as responsible for the PRD's defeat and called on the party followers to become aware of the great damage that they (Mejia and his PPH) are doing to the organization as a power option.
