The head of the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), Amable Aristy Castro is the candidate for Senator who received the largest majority. In Bulletin #6 he had received 60% of the vote. Today's Diario Libre points out that the politician, who was elected Senator last term and turned it down for the top position at the LMD that handles all the country's city hall budgets, exercises political patronage with his wallet. Diario Libre says that La Altagracia province, with its 97,000 eligible voters continues to be dominated by Aristy Castro, "whose residence is permanently surrounded by beggars of all ages who turn the residence in to a charity center. The journalist reports that thousands come with their prescriptions for medicines, pawnshop receipts, and children in arms seeking to benefit from Aristy's wallet. "He is the father of the town," said several people who were interviewed at the residence that the journalist says is reminiscent of former President Joaquin Balaguer's home.
