Hi folks,
My name is Mike, single male 49 from NJ. Im thinking about going to the DR solo 12/3-12/8. I have never been to the DR, and by reading things online, Sosua seems the place to go.
Im having a difficult time choosing hotels. I see hotels on line, then read reviews about them. The reviews many times are not favorable. As an example the Hotel Plaza Europa. It looks like a nice place on their websight. When I went to DR1, a review said the place was like a slum. Also, I dont want a hotel that restricts me to not bringing guests into the place. I also dont want a run down place infested with roaches. Just a confortable place with A/C and hot water. And no Im not looking for a Hilton LOL.
So can you educate this newbie? I would sincerely appreciate it. Oh, one hotel the DonAndes looks ok. But I really need an education and hotel recommendations. Thanks.
Mike

Keep in mind that a Motel 6 would be considered a 5-Star hotel in Sosua.

For a first time newbie, I'd suggest Sosua Palace, just to get your feet wet and to learn the ropes. There is no where like it for learning what's going on there. Then check out other places.

I was there for 2 days (came unannounced with Don Tomas) before it filled up-was in The Swede's Suite (B-3?), with no problems at all. I went from there to the Europa, again with no problems.

I stayed at The Europa, and its not a slum at all.

I was at the Europa and in spite of a few problems with Diego it is a nice place to stay.

I was hanging out at the Palace most of the time with guttaman, psriches, and JimmyDR.

The in-house chicas there are overpriced so I wouldn't recommend this for the newbies because they are just going to get taken for their pesos.

IMHO if you are going to pay a chica $100US you should just go to Crystals and fuck a superstar, rather than a used up PUTA.

Personally, I would suggest the Palace. Only because everyone staying there will be like-minded( there for the same reason ). When you hook up with the more experienced guys there, that should take care of all the other issues.

Stay at the Palace. For a first timer, it can't be beat! There's more of a community feel to it. If you don't like the Palace chicas, take a stroll around the corner and down the street. You'll find whatever you're looking for.

Still overpriced but the women are soo fine there that I was willing to pay $100 for some cocha.

Either way my next trip I will be hitting Crystals my first night in POP.

It is absolutely untrue to say that Motel 6 would be a 5-star hotel in Sosua. Motel 6 rooms are absolutely tiny, but rooms in the DR tend to be fairly generously proportioned. My room recently at the Europa was huge, with a fine bathroom, fridge, cable TV with porno channel, nice bed, loads of storage space for clothes, working AC. What do you want? OK, no automatic coffee maker, ironing board, or steam iron.

OK, the pool at the Europa is nothing to get excited about, and there is no spa or gym, I agree, but I don't think you will find these things at Motel 6 either.

Also the Europa has a very nice restaurant on site where you can sit and watch the street scene go by. Typically in a Motel 6, you will have to walk a block or two to a Waffle House (surely the worst restaurant chain in the US) for some disgusting food.

It is across the street from the Europa. It is in the area they call the Guest House. Directly behind Dominos.

After staying in the Guest House for the first time in June, it is the only place I will stay at the Europa. Rooms are nice, private, not as loud and the pool is definitely bigger/nicer.

I stayed at the guesthouse for three weeks last June and I paid $21 a night. Don't stay at the street side though:the noise of the planta is hell.
Good things: big apartment, hot water, airco, very good cleaning, not a lot of other guests in sight (if you like your privacy, I like the Palace party thing more).
Bad things: real quiet, cedula checks.
Side note: traditional safe, not electronic. Plus you have to apy a deposit of $40 for the safe, which is returned when you leave.

Yeah, it was cool for me. Like I said, my only negatives were the cedula check (which was not there during the day and could be avoided at night fairly easily), the noise of the planta (cause I was at the ground floor on the street side) and I missed the social aspect of the Palace.
Overall, I would stay there again, especially since the price can't be beat.....

I heard you can just pay off the guard and not be bothered. As for the noise complaint...Complaining about to much noise in the DR is like complaining that there is to much sand at the beach!

You don't even have to pay off the guard. One of my girls did not have her cedula. They made her fill out a form with her name, her age and where she was from.
She just filled in her working name (not her real name), Santo Domingo and 19 years old. With that she was allowed in......

Worked for me :-)
With another girl I just told the guard she left her cedula at the Flamingo and we'd show it later. That was OK too. I gave him 100 pesos, but never showed him the cedula.

Depends on how you define short stay.....
I think you can rent the Europa guesthouse by the day, just like the regular hotel....you won't get it for $21 then though....

First time poster, long time lurker - by the way.

Anyway, I've been to Sosua twice in last six months. 1st time at Palace. 2nd time at Europa. While I liked the Palace just fine, I prefer the Europa.

It's just a personal preference, but I like a bit of isolation on my solo mongering trips. It seemed like everyone at the Palace knew one another, and the same chicas were there every day. At Europa, I was just another guest... bringing in chicas I'd met on the street, beach, or the bar a half-block away (for less $ than the Palace chicas held out for).

And given that the Europa is, on average, $10 less per night for comparable lodging, it'll get my repeat business. I DID have a nice stay at the Palace - just prefer the Europa.

I have stayed at Palace and also at the Europa. As has been said before there are pros and cons. For a first timer I will definately recommend palace. You will meet guys that are very friendly and also very helpful and you will learn how to deal with the girls.
I have also stayed at the Europa. EUROPA IS NOT A SLUM.
I just prefer sleeping in one room and having my things in another. And theres no reason a chica should be seen in the other room.
I always stay in the suits on the first floor. Last time I was there is October it cost $33/night. I had a big room and the AC was working very fine. I could also go to the resturant and order food and have it delievered to my room. I had a phone in my room etc. I could chose to use the door that led to the street or to use the door facing the pool. It was very convinient and I will stay there again. I really like the place and I was treated very well.
I like the palace. I recommend the palace. It is an excellent place and John is a great guy. But for your first time, stay at palace. Try the europa maybe on your second trip. It is right there in the middle of the middle of the action. Walking dsitance to everything.

Same hotel, different locations, although located next to each other.
You know the Europa, the guesthouse is behind Dominos bar.
Guesthouse is more like apartments for longer stays. Plus you can get your girls in less visible, since there is only a doorman at night and no reception. No porn channel on the tv though and no electronic safes, just regular ones. Except for the noise of he planta, the motoconchos and Dominos, I was quite satisfied with the guesthouse.
Oh, the doorman keeps trying to pimp whores to ya, but they usually look like shit.

Does Anyone know the price of this Cheap Hotel here it is called Hotel Montana I am not sure What price this Hotel is but I am guessing from 15 bucks to 25 at the very most I hope so. It is on The El Batey side of Sosua and it supossed to be inexpensive and a 53 Room Hotel on Calle Libre Phone number 809 571 2255. Check out first and see if you can handle the simple rooms. Other Resonable accomadation is found mostly in Los Charamicos. In The US 15 Dollar Range is Pension Gomez Calle Carmen 809 571 5159. Hotel El Bambu 809 5712379. Pension La Cancilleria 809 571 3594 and Pension Tata Calle Kinder 15 are supossed to be True Budget accomadations. I guess The Next Cheapest is in the offseason At The El Paraiso from 20 bucks a night 809 571 2906. I think This Last place is German Owned. Apart Hotel Neuvosol from 25 bucks a Night at Clisante 11. There is over 2,000 rooms to choose from in Sosua. I find it hard to See That Cheapos do not exist in Sosua. I mean Where Do The Traveling Dominicans and Hatians stay at?
