Temperatures as high as 35 C have been felt recently in the DR and more hot temperatures are to be expected in the coming days due to a high pressure system over the North Atlantic Ocean. A report by El Caribe says thermometers hit the 35 C (95 F) mark in Jimani (along the border with Haiti) yesterday. Meteorologist Luis Jerez expects these conditions to continue for two to three more days. The highest temperature ever recorded in the DR during the month of May was 41 C (105 F) in 1997. Temperatures in the southeastern part of the country have been averaging around 30 C (85 F).
