In a statement yesterday, Radhames Batista, president of the National Border Council, criticized the existence of private customs that serve as ridge for the illegal entry of people, vehicles and merchandise from Haiti. Batista said that border controls are precarious, and this poses a threat to Dominican security, as animals, foodstuffs, and illegal substances can be imported by those willing to pay tolls. He called for more attention to border control.
