Spanish consultant Juan Tugores advises people to "read the fine print when negotiating with European organizations." Tugores said that the Dominican technicians who are currently working on a free trade deal with the European Union must emphasize the rules for accessing the European market. He stressed that they will have to "look at the small print" in order to take advantage of the treaty. The professor from the University of Barcelona told reporters that the European Union has an image of openness, but the nations that have trade agreements always complain about the restrictions placed on gaining access to the European markets, especially when it comes to agricultural products. As quoted by Diario Libre, Tugores said that" my principal suggestion is that they (the negotiators) should take special care with the small print about the rules for accessing the markets, because it is there that the effectiveness of free trade treaties is adulterated, especially by us Europeans." Tugores is due to speak at a seminar on globalization hosted by Funglode.
