The Secretary of the Presidency Danilo Medina, speaking to journalists at the Presidential Palace, said that the government does not have plans to send new taxes to Congress. "Power will be put to the service of the country, not the service of the party," said Medina, as reported in El Caribe. He denied that the PLD would appoint a Reformista (PRSC) to head the Chamber of Deputies, or that the party is negotiating the top job at the Dominican Municipal League. He said it is too early to talk about that. "We are not distributing anything. That has its time, now there is a transition and we need to wait for the country to calm down again, and in August the leadership of the houses of Congress will happen and then we will talk about that," said Medina.

Political and social analyst, Rosario Espinal commented in an interview in Hoy newspaper today that the congressional and municipal majority obtained by the ruling PLD party obliges the party to govern with intelligence and prudence and avoid that the administration of the state become a nest for corruption. She urged the government to increase efforts to reduce corruption in government. She said that a government with a majority in the different branches can be either good or bad. She hoped there not be a repeat of the Mejia administration (2000-2004), when the majority was not used to promote institutinalism, nor lower corruption levels, and instead, congressional majority was used to pass reforms at their convenience. "The PLD can use their power to govern at levels that improve the quality of living of the people," challenged Espinal.
