According to bulletin No. 18 issued last night by the Central Electoral Board (JCE), the PLD will control both chambers of Congress as of 16 August this year. The party obtained 95 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, while the PRD / PRSC alliance obtained 83. This is in addition to 22 PLD Senators compared to 6 won by the PRD and 4 by the PRSC, as reported by Diario Libre. The PLD and allies also won in 67 municipalities, the PRD and allies in 52, the PRSC in 28, the PRI in 2, and the PPC and PRSD in one each. The winners will not be officially declared until the JCE Contention Chamber has ruled on all appeals.


Bulletin No. 18 results show abstention was 42.24%. Of the 5,369,064 eligible voters, 3,101,071 voted, or 57.76%. In the 2004 presidential election, abstention was 27%.
