I have my virgin trip to Sosua and Puerto Plata coming up. Regretably, I have to keep an eye on the stock market. Is there internet access available in Sosua and POP? I'm staying at NG. Do they have wireless service? Should I bring my laptop (I would prefer not to)? Are there internet cafes? Also, does the NG have cable TV with US news channels that have stock market tickers or updates?

Shredder...I think most of your questions can be answered with a little research on the board.

I am a fairly good mood before Vikings Football Sunday so I will try to help out a bit.

1) Yes, there are several internet cafes all over Sosua and POP. If you are staying at the New Garden, when you exit the hotel take a left and walk maybe a couple hundred feet and you will have one cafe on the same side of the road, go a couple more feet down from there and you will find Rocky's Blues Bar. Marco (owner) has several computers you can use in there (including wireless access). There is a small charge to use his computers, but he serves some really good reasonably priced food. So you can order and while you wait get on a computer. Also a great place to see chicas checking in with their WU Novio's. :)

2) The New Garden has Wireless access but I am not sure how far that reaches. The wireless router is in the office on the other side of the courtyard. I am pretty sure it will work around the pool and restaurant/bar area though. He has no computers that you can use, unless something has changed. Also there isn't any wired connections.

3) The New Garden has cable. I believe they have quite a few New York area cable channels including news. I think they had CNN for sure. Not sure about the stock market tickers though. Plus, they also have the porno channel!!

Hope this helps!! Have a good time and please come back and post a report with pictures. :D

3Somefan,

Thanks, you gave me a pretty clear picture of what to expect. In your opinion...is bringing a laptop too much of a hassle because of the security risk involved? Are the safes large enough to handle a laptop?

No, neither the safes in the old rooms or in the new ones are big enough for a standard laptop. It is nice to have a laptop with you, but with the internet shops so close you really don't need it.

Personally, I would not bring one because of the inconvenience of lugging it around plus the issue of security.

i have never had a problem getting the wireless signal at the new garden from any of the poolside rooms
I bring a laptop cable lock and wrap it around some heavy furniture
never had to hide it in my room

i never travel without my laptop:D

easier to do live reporting and keep track of the ongoing world melt down:eek:

at pattaya bay resort in thailand, the new garden in the dr, the mansion in colombia as well as all hotels in cuba i leave my lap top on the desk and my camera hooked up to it and never had a problem.

its the chicas ya gotta watch more than the hotel & their staff

have fun and don't worry;)

I also travel with my laptop everywhere. I do not lock my computer, but it is normally in my computer bag in the closet when I am not using it.

Unless you plan on leaving a chica in your room alone then you probably have nothing to worry about. Stay at a reputable hotel and your computer will be fine.

Most chicas would steal money, cell phones, camera's and bathroom products as they are easy to hide. They can't stick a laptop in their underwear and walk out un-noticed (unless you are fucked up drunk lol).
