The Falconbridge Dominicana mining company has announced that it will be ceasing work indefinitely due to high production costs and the low cost of nickel on global markets. In August Falconbridge announced that it would close its operations for just four months for maintenance works and to install new lower-cost energy units, but the situation on the international markets is thought to have added pressures on the company.
