The secretary general of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) is protesting about the fact that the ruling party, the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) has supposedly plans to control two-thirds of Congress. Speaking on the morning show, Despierta con CDN, Channel 37, Orlando Jorge Mera said that the PRD would act according to the law and respect the final election results announced by the JCE.
"The PLD is seeking to control two-thirds of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies to have the majority established in the Constitution," he said. He said that to have the simple majority they would need 18 senators, but 25 senators would give the PLD the two-thirds majority necessary for other matters. So far, the JCE has awarded the PLD 22 senator seats, but three others are being disputed.
The PRD had the absolute majority in the Senate between 2002 and 2006, with 30 of 31 seats.
