Finance Minister Vicente Bengoa told the nation that the government does not have plans to submit a fiscal reform, that would bring an increase in taxes. As reported in Diario Libre, Bengoa said that the IMF letter establishes that the economic team needs to analyze the effects of the fiscal reform of January 2006, but that does not necessarily mean there will be more taxes levied. He said that in August, the government's economic team needs to present a proposal aimed at reducing the Central Bank's quasi-fiscal deficit (about RD$150 billion). Bengoa says, however that this does not necessarily mean there will be more taxes.
