After weeks without news, it is becoming increasingly likely that 51 people who set off on a small boat trip to Puerto Rico are probably dead. The sole survivors to date, Diomito Rodriguez and Reinaldo Ramirez were rescued off the coast of Belle Anse, Haiti, by fishermen. They were transported back to the small southwestern town of Pedernales and then airlifted to Santo Domingo later in the week. Reports explain that the two men, who were found naked and dehydrated, could barely communicate. The ship left from La Romana headed for Puerto Rico on 22 November and the survivors said that once they ran out of fuel the captain jumped overboard leaving the survivors to die at sea. Navy spokesman Benny Batista said the Dominican Navy is coordinating with the US Coast Guard to continue the search for possible survivors.
