[DR1] PLD obtains majority in chamber

The ruling Partido de la Liberacion Dominicana (PLD), has won 92 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and the opposition has won 82, according to the latest information from the Central Electoral Board (JCE). Meanwhile, the JCE secretary Antonio Lockward Aquiles announced that the deadline for submitting complaints or challenges would be extended until Saturday, 27 May. Lockward said that the extension of the deadline came at the behest of the political parties, who argued that the last election bulletin was not received in a timely fashion. According to Lockward, the addresses of many of the local party heads were incorrect and this further delayed the last bulletin's arrival. At last count, there were 235 challenges to local or provincial results. Some of the challenges are requesting a recount, and others are questioning the election process itself in some areas.
