To help the Ministry of Environment protect the environment, a group of businessmen has joined forces as the Business Support Network for Environmental Protection (Red Nacional de Apoyo Empresarial a la Proteccion Ambiental). The network was formed at the request of the Ministry of Environment.
Manuel Garcia Arevalo (of the Pepsi bottling company) will head the group. Twenty-five companies have joined the initiative. "We have joined in a network to find ways of creating a chain of information and exchange of experience and to share the knowledge that the business community has in order to protect ecosystems and the environment," Garcia Arevalo told the press upon making the announcement. The group will be working closely with the Environmental Police, under the command of Colonel Valerio Antonio Garcia Reyes. The network will be officially launched on 6 June on the occasion of the celebration of Environment Day.
Companies joining the network are Occidental Hotels, Cap Cana, Embotelladora Dominicana, Verizon, Ferreteria Americana, Cemento Andino Dominicano, Baltimore Dominicana, Peravia Industrial, Grupo Ramos, Pasteurizadora Rica, Lacteos Dominicanos, Centro Cuesta Nacional. Also Nestle Dominicana, Avelino Abreu, Pintura Popular, Bon Agroindustrial, Tricom, Hoteles Viva Resorts, Hoteles Coral, Industrias Nacionales, Falconbridge Dominicana, Envases Antillanos, Molinos Modernos, Mercatodo, Consejo Nacional de la Empresa Privada and Junta Agroempresarial Dominicana, Asociacion Nacional de Hoteles y Restaurants, and the American Chamber of Commerce.
