Dozens of workers have been painting walls, polishing floors, and changing lighting fixtures at the Ministry of Foreign Relations headquarters since last 10 April. This is going on in preparation for the celebration of the XXXVI General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which is taking place here from 4 to 6 June. Changes include new buildings that have been built especially for the event, such as the press room and conference hall. The press room will reportedly become the Ministry's cafeteria after the event, as reported by Diario Libre. The conference hall, which will seat 900 people, will remain for future events. It is equipped with a four-language simultaneous translation booth, and sound and lighting systems. According to the ministry, the cost amounts to RD$50 million, and came mostly from ministry funds. The rest was provided by the central government.
