I will be in an all-inclusive from 12/4-12/11 in Punta Cana. Believe me, if I had to do it differently, I would. But I am committed so now I need help finding fun from there.

Assuming I plan to use local drivers (versus renting a car), please advise on (1)the best spots to hit including estimated prices in US $$$, (2)the approximate estimated costs to get there and back and (3)who to use for this transportation (including contact info).

Much appreciated,
Bretzkey

I hear that is NOT the place to be. I'm sure you'll be able to have fun though. It just will require a little more work. One of the Punta Cana vets on the board will surely chime in with suggestions. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find!

I would say 99% of this board has never been to Punta Cana, including myself. :(

Well first I have a question for you, are you going down there for a wedding? I was told about someone contracting in Tampa going to PC during the same dates. If you are that person contact me by PM and we will exchange more info.

As for what to do. Punta Cana itself is just AI resorts, that is it. In order to have any local fun you must travel to Higuey. I do know there are night clubs (whore houses) and Cabanas there. I will search for info on them but I know for sure they exist. I know a girl working in one...

As for how much to get there well you are at a major disadvantage. Higuey is 25 miles from Punta Cana and you are a tourist. They will try to charge you a lot of money. For a similar trip (Sosua - Puerto Plata) it would be about US$15 so base it on that. Never take their first offer! Trust me the local living in Higuey and working at the resorts pay about US$2-3 for the same ride.

You could also make friends with a resort worker with a car and offer to pay for gas and beer for the night and go out with him!

I just Got back ... well 3 weeks ago after golfing trip with GF.

Don Thomas has given you a very good take. However, if you need a little quick action ... there is always a local village and a cabana.

We stayed at the Paradisius ... and played golf at Punta Cana Golf and Beach. ( + Cocotal ) We got taken for the ride down and the ride back accordng to what I read in this thread but that is in the past.

I could have walked 10 minutes into a nice village and hung out like I do in Sousa. But I was on a short leash.

I saw some sparkling cabanas on the rides to and from the hotel.

In summary, it is not dead, but it is definitely not Sosua ...

There are two very nice cabanas in the Bavaro area. I know this board is primarily for Port a Prince east (Sosua) visitors, but it may suprise you to learn that Bavaro has about three times the clubs, discos, casinos, and girls than does Sosua. Unlike Sosua these women are mostly hispanic and range from beautiful to stunning. And for those of you who don't like being the third client of the day or eighth of the week think of the potential with 8,000 day laborers (waitresses, pool attendents, maids, resort entertainers, receptionists, etc) making only a few dollars per day.
What was that old expression in the US "Head east young man"

But you are in the middle of nowhere!

As for your Port a Prince east remark some people do like the dark meat, I know I like to dip in it every so often. If you don't want the dark meat, Santiago an hour south has the lightest Dominicans in the country! Best of both worlds.

DT, how far is Santiago from Sosua...?

If you have balls and drive the mountain route, 1 hour.
If you take the highway, 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic.

Like DT said...

As an alternative the buses Caribe Tours between Sosua and Santiago run relatively on time and take about the same 1.5-2.0 hours at a mucho cheaper rate and you can meet girls going to and fro in the bus as well.. you can ask them to show you the town :-) and they will! Great pick-up spot!
