The Ministry of the Interior and Police has purchased 11 small Harley Davidson motorcycles, 50 communication radios, and 6 four wheels, at a cost of RD$5.6 million. The vehicles and equipment will be used for patrolling areas that are frequented by tourists, such as the Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo. The service will be unveiled on 10 June by President Fernandez during a public ceremony at Parque Colon, according to Minister Franklin Almeyda. Diario Libre reports that in addition to the increased surveillance, lighting in the Colonial Zone will also be improved.
