[DR1] Another evasion scandal in Customs

Forty officials were fired after the detection of a RD$15 million tax evasion case in the Customs Department. Evasions detected so far this year exceed RD$1.5 billion. Clave Digital reports this evasion case was detected at the Haina Occidental port. Last week, a RD$50-million evasion case was discovered in the same department. The Taxation and Auditing Department also reported that they have found seven more cases of under-valued merchandise consigned to commercial importers. On Thursday, the Customs Department warned that several businesspeople and commercial importers were being investigated in relation to these frauds against the Dominican state.
