Santo Domingo Mayor Roberto Salcedo has placed very special dedication to the care, maintenance and surveillance of Mirador Sur Park, notably improving the landscape's condition and including the construction of a children's playground "Las Canquinas". Maintenance and surveillance costs are an average RD$2.5 million, or RD$83,000 per day. Ten tourism mounted police agents are on duty, at least three additional agents look after the area on three-wheels and another 20 on foot. They also receive the help of 30 municipal police agents. A group of 250 workmen look after the park's maintenance working from 7 am to 1 pm, Monday through Saturday. Another group works until 4 pm, and a small group is on duty on Sundays to clean up after festive activities. The park was used as part of Salcedo's campaign for reelection.
