The representative of Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic, Armando del Valle Munoz expressed concern about the possible postponement of the implementation of the DR-CAFTA. He acknowledged the commitment of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to have the treaty come into effect on July 1st, but considered the delay could have negative consequences on foreign investment in this country, according to a report by Diario Libre. The Puerto Rican business sector has great expectations regarding the increase of exports to the DR and a greater presence of Puerto Rican capital in this country, according to Del Valle. The Dominican market is second in importance for Puerto Rico, representing an annual bilateral exchange of US$1.4 billion.
