The Soy Research Program of the University of Illinois will be working with the Price Stabilization Institute (INESPRE) to provide the technical know-how to create new food combinations that include fortified vegetable proteins of common foods used in the general population. Based on experiences in other nations regarding the change in the eating habits of people and the content of the food in the basic family food basket, the director of Inespre, Ricardo Jacobo and Illinois professor Karl Weingartner said that they were sure that the program would work in the Dominican Republic. The agreement was signed during a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Relations. Jacobo said foods would be fortified with vitamins B1, B3 and proteins.
