The Central Electoral Board dominated the headlines all last week as the nation anxiously awaited its decisions regarding more than two hundred challenges to results from the 16 May elections. When all was said and done, the JCE told the political parties that the original decisions related to 14 Senate seats were valid and rejected all protests and challenges filed. The information contained in Bulletin #18 therefore still stands: PLD won 22 seats in the Senate, the PRD won six and the PRSC won four. Lawyer Cesar Pina Toribio, the PLD delegate at the JCE, told reporters that the party was "partially satisfied with the results." For Dario de Jesus, the PRD delegate, the decisions were "a deception and indignant." Salvador Ramos, the JCE magistrate in charge of the Disputes Chamber, told the reporters that the board would spend the weekend sifting through all the protests and challenges against the results of municipal posts as well as the challenges to many of the deputies who were declared winners in Bulletin #18. A final report is due to be issued later today.
