Dominicana's unexpected loss to the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic and failure to move on to Round 2 has led to millions of dollars in financial losses for several companies, reports Listin Diario. Tour operators, advertising campaigns and TV promotion are all suffering as a result of the diminished interest from Dominicans in being part of the WBC. Eddy Tours told the newspaper that of 23 packages they had sold, only six travelers who had pre-paid would be making the trip. Spokesman for the agency, Edison Urena, said the day after the loss was a "black Wednesday" for them. The BHD bank and Presidente beer had spent millions on their campaigns to support the Dominican participation in the Classic.
