Legendary Puerto Rican balladeer Danny Rivera, who became a Dominican citizen in 2008, has been appointed director of the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park and godfather of the Jaragua-Bahoruco-Enriquillo Biosphere Reserve (that includes Bahia de las Aguilas), declared by the UNESCO in 2002. He was sworn in yesterday by Enrivonment Minister Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal. Rivera promised to work to promote the DR's ecological attractions in Puerto Rico and among Dominicans. "We are going to use the arts, such as poetry, painting, photography, drama and song to help the people of the world know what we are all about," he said. He thanked the Ministry for this opportunity and described himself as a soldier ready for the mission he has been entrusted with. "I will start by placing the arts at the service of the region. There is extraordinary human and environmental wealth in the South", he stressed.
