Hey guys,

I managed to get a rate of $55 per night (for a Wed-Fri this week )at the Mercure using the American Airlines website... it came to $80 with taxes and fees...

I booked a two days in advance...

I also saw a rate of $90 for the Jaragua Renaissance... looked like $125 with taxes...

Good price. Good location but small rooms.

It is a moot point since you have already booked your room, but there were some other options around the Colonial Zone that may have been a better deal for you:

Hotel Palacio - (half a block from el conde) the most expensive one, but real nice (you really don't need this) they want $95.00 per night and $12.00 chica fee. (hotelpalacio@codetel.net.do) or (hotelpalacio@firstcaribbeanhotels.com) tel (809) 682-4730.

Hotel Monumental - (entrance on el conde) the cheapest hotel and most basic but clean. They want $45.00 paying by credit card or $35.00/night paying cash. they charge $10.00 chica fee. (hotelmonumental.com.do) tel (809) 682-4747.

Gran Hotel Aida - (around the corner from el conde w/ some rooms above the el conde) very nice, clean. they want $55.00/night with no chica fee. (email hotelaida@codetel.net.do) tel (809) 685-7692.

Aparta Hotel Roma - (around the corner from el conde w/ some rooms above the el conde) very nice and very clean all and all (everything considered) maybe your best bet. they want $45.00/night with no chica fee. (email apartahotel_roma@hotmail.com) tel (809) 682-0318.

I personally would have reccommended the Aparta Hotel Roma, which has rooms overlooking El Conde in the Colonial Zone, in my opionion for what you get the best deal by far.

That I don't know but if you email them or check their websites, I am sure you can get that info.

Hotel Mecure is guest friendly, but they will charge you a fee for every chica you bring home. I think the fee is something like $15USD. I got a $70 rate +taxes, but the fee brought my total bill to around $90USD with total.

Decent hotel, but definitely not worth $90 per night. As Yayow stated, there are definitely better options.

I've stayed at Mercure for three days but don't use the room bar, everything is overpriced. They have free WIFI access and the location is great. Breakfast is included and it's 'All you can eat', but would I stay there again? No! There are better places elsewhere on the El Conde. Check out the price list for their roombar below.

$3.95 for a small bottle of water plus 26% tax.

Unfortunately Discovery is one I haven't checked out, I don't know why, because it is actually closer to me than the other ones, I pass it everyday I take a walk to el conde.

But from the outside and just passing it; it looks clean, nice little restuarant in a good location. I have noticed that they, have a rather imposing looking doorman working nights, although he seems friendly enough, he always says hi to me when I pass at night.

He does have that look but he's a pussycat until someone fucks with one of the guests!! Good dude to have around at night.

I've been using Discovery as my budget hotel but wanted to check out Aparta Roma if it was a better value.

He is right. The brand new apart roma (no sign outside or website, natch) is your best bet. I paid a little over $30 a night for 3 nights in August. And they even have free porno on the satellite-but let's hope you don't need it.

Again I will try to post this info, I tried a few moments ago and put a lot of info here and somehow it got lost in cyber space or somewhere, well here we go again. Once again besides posting this here I will post it in the Colonial Zone info area.

Hotel Discovery located across from Parque Independencia, and the entrance to el conde. They seem to have 4 different priced rooms, the top priced one being $80, and the least being $35, the in between are $60 and $50. No additional chica price for the top two priced rooms, and an additional $10 chica price for the two lower priced rooms. They have the normal ammenities, wifi, hot water, safe, cable etc. They also have outside public areas on every floor, on the top floor the public area also has a small pool, I mean small!!, smaller than what you would get if you stayed at an individual villa in Casa Linda. Phone # (809) 687-4048/5078; email: hoteldiscovery@verizon.net.do website: www.discoverygranhotel.com (http://www.discoverygranhotel.com)

Again imho a better overall deal is to be found at the Aparta Roma.

Good idea but I wouldn't know how to do that, so I just copied the relative info and pasted. This thread probably should be incorporated.

Wow, so you still think Roma is the better overall value!

I might have to check it out and possibly change my base of operations.

I know Roma is off the Conde but what is the side street?

there is another post called map of colonial zone, as you go through that you will see a picture of the street it is on, store that are next to it, for landmark purposes, and it's entrance. Hope that will help point you in the right direction.
