The Herrera Industries Association (AEIH) is warning about the high wages being paid to politicians, as they could contribute to the increasing gulf between the haves and have-nots. A press release from AEIH states that the government's job is to reduce the country's inequality with improved wealth distribution, but with three or four incomes and the perks of being a politician, they only exacerbate the situation. These expressions of outrage from the AEIH and other organizations come in reaction to a proposal from various state entities to give their employees pay raises. While the AEIH applauded President Leonel Fernandez's willingness to create a commission to study pay hikes for public employees, the business association expressed hope that this is more than just intent, which they say is often the case when the government creates a commission to find a solution to a problem.
