Instruction Judge Juan Alexis Rodriguez has ordered eight of 31 cops accused of crimes in Puerto Plata to jail for three months. Those sent back to jail are Colonel Frank Almonte Castillo, Captain Daniel Cepeda Rubio, Sergeant Mayor Rafael Lora Rosario, Corporal Adrrier Miguel Mustafa, Second Lieutenant Pedro Pablo Toribio Alvarez, Sergeants Joaquin Rosario Roque and Jeremias Morales Lahoz and private Wellington Almonte Mateo. The former cops were found guilty of murdering brothers Jose and Ruddy Cabrera Pena and Julio Cesar Garcia Almonte in the city on 2 January. An investigation revealed that drug dealers had contracted the cops to kill the men, as reported in Hoy. The former cops were taken to the San Felipe Jail in Puerto Plata. A former president of the Puerto Plata Lawyers Association, Eric Urena, who is defending several of the accused cops, told Hoy that the judge had dismissed the tapped cell phone conversations from evidence because there was no court order allowing the phones to be tapped.
