Strict security measures and the closing of several streets and avenues due to the 36th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) caused many traffic jams in Santo Domingo yesterday. Traffic was held up for up to one hour in areas of town around the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the assembly is being held. Closed streets include parts of Independencia, Maximo Gomez, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and streets around the area with northern or southern access to Correa y Cidron. Only accredited vehicles are allowed within the restricted area.
