The Fernandez administration has authorized the transfer of the 118,000 square meters where the Quisqueya Stadium is located to the National Housing Bank (Banco Nacional de la Vivienda - BNV). In his 27 February state of the nation address, President Leonel Fernandez mentioned that the government was backing the construction of a new sports center including a four-star hotel, shopping center, 200 apartments and a baseball museum, as well as the remodeling of the stadium. The US$115 million project is due to be completed in time for the city to host a round of the World Baseball Classic games in 2013. Joaquin Geronimo, general manager of the BNV said that details would be forthcoming.
