Two actresses of Dominican origin won awards during the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) ALMA Awards event held on Monday, 5 June. The NCLR is the largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the US. Judy Reyes, of NBC's Scrubs show (born in the Bronx, NY to Dominican parents) dedicated the award to the Dominican Republic. She won the award for the Outstanding Actress in a Television Series. Michelle Rodriguez won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Television Series for her performances in ABC's Lost.
The awards ceremony was televised on ABC, achieving high viewing figures.
